How to Build A New Team From Scratch
Since
each team is nothing more than a collection of individuals, and since each
individual is unique, then each team, by definition, is also unique. Therefore,
assembling our teams in the workplace, or anywhere else, requires thought and
care.
The opportunity
doesn’t come often for us, but getting the chance to build a brand new team
from scratch is one of the most enjoyable experiences a manager will ever have.
For me, the first such opportunity came
several years ago, when my firm opened up a new factory in Riyadh.
I was
tasked with building an entire departments from the ground up,to eventually
delivering results, I started with a clean slate, few rules and only an endgame
in mind: How can I build a successful
team?
Here’s
how I'm building my team in Riyadh, from identifying a position I need to fill
all the way through to making a hire.
Determine
the type of team you need.
Develop
a repeatable hiring process.
Prioritize.
Hire
action-takers who can get the job done.
Give
your team the tools to succeed.
Develop:
Unlock your employees’ potential.
Building
a team like this from scratch is a very rare opportunity. The last year has
been one of the proudest and most exhilarating moments in my career. It’s also
been immensely rewarding to see the work of my team continue to drive Indeed’s
mission
