How To Write Smart Objectives – For Beginners
Smart Objectives
The
SMART Way.
Any objectives for a department or
individuals, must improve efficiency and effectiveness,
thus improving the
overall performance of the department and benefiting the company in its aim to
achieve greater revenues and profitability.
S Specific means that
the objective should be clearly defined in not more than 10 to 12 words or
thereabouts, with a completion date,
M Measurable means that
all objectives must be easily measurable within the time frames allocated to
the objective. Success is not possible
without measurement.
A Achievable means that
all these involved must believe that the goal can be reached within the
time-frame. It is better to take 1000
achievable small steps than one huge step which may cause a major slip.
R Realistic means that
it is within the ability of the resource ( Human & otherwise )
available. You cannot run before you can
walk.
T Time-frame means that
the objectives and the stages of the objectives must have dates for when they
are to be completed.
The
better the plan, the better the chance of achievement.
